Tilson Prepares Youth Team For Cup Final

Lincoln City’s youth players are set to get a chance to shine in the Lincolnshire Senior Cup final.

The Imps will face Grimsby Town in the final on 2 August after beating Scunthorpe United on penalties in their semi-final. And Boss Steve Tilson is keen to protect the majority of his first-team players ahead of their opening Blue Square Premier fixture at Southport on 13 August.

Tilson told BBC Lincolnshire: “It’s another pre-season game that we don’t need and we might pick up injuries.”

“I’m going to put the youth team out. I’ll check the rules but I don’t think that will make me change my thoughts.”

Lincolnshire FA regulations on the Senior Cup state: “Every club in the competition shall play their strongest team.”

“Any club proved to be playing an under strength team shall be dealt with by the [Lincolnshire FA] Council.”
