Stalemate against Scousers

Match: Liverpool vs Stoke City

We started very well and dominated the opening periods of the game. We managed to carve open a couple of good chances but couldn’t convert either of them until we were awarded a free kick to the right of the penalty area out wide. Jimmy took it and whipped it in with good pace, but the cross evaded everyone in the penalty area including the Liverpool keeper and we went 1-0 up.

After the goal we continued to push and look for a second but we were hit on the break and Liverpool won a corner which they converted through some sloppy marking. We went into the break 1-1 and came out in the second half eager to get another goal, but our cause wasn’t helped when Nathan McDonald, my other strike partner was sent off for a second yellow around the 55th minute. This left us with 10 men for the next 35 minutes and against a very good Liverpool team.

Chances to get another goal were not looking good and we spent most of the time with all 10 men behind the ball and defending for our lives. In the end the game ended 1-1 which was a compliment to our defensive organisation and the hard work that the team showed, we also owed credit to Danzelle (our keeper) who made some very good saves to keep us in the match. The overall feeling after the game was that we did well to hold on to the point considering the circumstances
