Rudd To The Rescue

Declan Rudd

Youngster Declan Rudd, stepped off the bench to help Norwich City rescue a draw at Gillingham on Saturday.

Keeper Rudd was called in to the action in the 1-1 draw after Fraser Forster was sent off and Norwich captain Grant Holt admitted he was impressed by teenager Rudd’s debut for the Canaries.

Speaking after the match, Holt said;

“He played well, a bit nervy at first, but he’s a young lad, we know what Dec’s all about, he’s very good.”

“This might be the chance he gets now to have a little run in the team and fair play to him, I’m sure he’ll grab it with both hands.”

While Rudd failed to save Simeon Jackson’s penalty with his first touch, he did make a string of saves in the second half.

He also ran the length of the pitch to be involved in the build-up to Darel Russell’s 97th minute equaliser.

“That’s where stories are written, and I think he even gave a shout to Rusty [Russell] to leave it.”

Holt added.

“I’m just delighted for him, he’s waited a long time for his chance, it’s always nice to get you’re debut so he’ll be happy.”
