Posh Blood Jay Davies

Peterborough United included two current 2nd-year Apprentices in their squad for their Carling Cup tie against Swansea City on Tuesday.

Young midfielder Jay Davies was included in Gary Johnson’s match-day squad alongside fellow 2nd-year Nathan Ralph and the pair were also joined by Carl Piergianni, himself a graduate of the Posh ASE programme.

And Davies who got his first taste of first team football when he replaced Seth Nana Ofori-Twumasi on 86 minutes was delighted to be given his opportunity.

Speaking to the Club’s official website, he said:

“It felt really good to make my first team debut. I didn’t think I would get on to be honest, but when the gaffer turned round and said I was going on, I was really nervous but excited at the same time.”

“I thought Swansea were a good team, I thought we did well in the first half and we deserved the equaliser, but we were unlucky in the end.”

Peterborough went down to the Swans 3-1 on Tuesday with Scott Sinclair netting a hat-trick for the visitors and Craig Mackail-Smith scoring Posh’s only goal.
