Pompey Young Guns Told To Wait For First-Team Chance

Portsmouth Manager Steve Cotterill has told his young players not to read too much into their appearances in the first-team squad during pre-season.

Current second year Apprentices Ryan Williams and Sam Magri were involved as Pompey cruised to a 4-0 win at Havant & Waterlooville on Monday, but Cotterill says that they have a lot more development to come before they can be considered for regular Championship action.

“I don’t think we will be seeing them in the first-team squad regularly at the moment. They are far too young, really,” Cotterill told the Portsmouth News.

“We are talking about them being 17 years of age, they are not physically developed, they are far from being men.”

“They are good young boys who have done a bit of training with us so far – and will continue to do that,” he added.
