Palace Boss Dismisses Clyne Bid

Crystal Palace boss George Burley insists Birmingham’s bid for Nathaniel Clyne is ‘not even worth looking at’.

Birmingham have seen an offer in the region of £1.25m rejected by Palace for the highly-rated defender.

The youngster who is currently away at the U19 European Championships with England was the subject of interest from the Blues West Midlands rivals Wolves last term.

Burley however, is keen to keep hold of the 19 year old and believes Clyne would be better served staying at Selhurst Park than moving to another Club.

“The position with Nathaniel really hasn’t changed since I got here, the bid from Birmingham is totally unacceptable for a player of Nathaniel Clyne’s potential. It’s not even worth looking at. He’s still very young and is still developing.”

“He is better off in the Championship for another season or two at least. I’m going to talk to his mother and explain why this is the best place for him. His agents seem to be trying to move him on for some reason, I think it’s disgusting. He’s still got two years left on his deal.”

He has come through the ranks with this Club as a young kid. Crystal Palace has been tremendous for him.”

“He might move on at some point but he is in the best place to develop right now. Maybe Birmingham should consider that the last teenage full-back I sold was Gareth Bale at Southampton for £12million.”

“Nathaniel is not the finished article yet but he has enormous potential and I want him to stay here and develop into an even better player.”
