Match: Sheffield United Reserves v Carlisle United Reserves

We had another Central League Cup game to play against Sheffield United on the Wednesday, and it was a competition that we hadn’t been doing too well in. We wanted to put that right. It was played at Sheffield FC, and it wasn’t the best of pitches, but we had a good result. Myself and Jonny Blake played, and even though they had a good side out, we still won 3 – 0.

As I say it was a good result, particularly in the conditions, as the pitch was quite soft. It’s probably the best game I’ve played in as far as Reserve football goes and I really enjoyed it.

I had a dentist appointment back home on the Thursday, so my dad came to the game and took me home after the match. That worked out well for me because I got home at about half twelve, where those travelling back to Carlisle didn’t get back until the early hours of the morning.

I didn’t have college on Thursday because of the dentist thing, so I travelled back up on the Friday on the train… that was an expensive trip I can tell you!

Youth Alliance Match: Carlisle United v Blackpool

On Friday we trained as usual and then on Saturday we had a home game against Blackpool at Gillford Park. When we last played there before Christmas, the pitch cut up really badly towards the end. It was a real mud bath but it has recovered really well, and it was a decent surface to play on.

We won 4 – 0 and that keeps us five points clear at the top of the table. It goes without saying that we are all pleased about that. Andy Cook scored his 30th and 31st goals of the season, but it wasn’t all good news for him as he had to walk off injured in the second half.

One of the goals that Andy got was a header that I also went up for, and I tried to claim it in all the confusion. Nobody believed me and unfortunately I have to admit that they were right. I didn’t get anywhere near it!

In my next blog I’ll talk about the Morecambe Reserve game, and about our trip to Tranmere in the Youth Alliance Cup.
