Newport County’s teenage starlet Regan Poole has been placed on standby for the Wales under-17 squad ahead of their UEFA qualifiers later this month.
The 16-year-old defender, who is a first-year apprentice has enjoyed a rapid promotion to the County first-team squad this term and has already been on trial at Manchester United and Fulham.
And he has also attracted the attention of the Wales selectors ahead of the qualifiers against Russia in Minsk on October 19, against Belarus in Molodechno on October 21 and Montenegro in Minsk on October 24.
Poole, who made his Newport debut in the 0-0 draw at Shrewsbury Town last month and was on the bench during their defeat at Oxford at the weekend would miss County’s matches against Dagenham & Redbridge, Southend United and Accrington Stanley if he is called-up as a last minute addition to the squad.
