Neath Move For Young Swan

Former Swansea City Apprentice Matthew Whatley has joined Welsh Premier League club Neath Athletic.

The 18-year-old defender, who played in LFE’s Assessment Trials in May, captained the Swans youth team to their Welsh Cup triumph last season and attracted interest from Cardiff City towards the back end of last season.

Whatley was called up for Wales in the Tri-Nations in Dublin and has represented Wales at youth level.

His move to Neath will see him reunited with his former team-mates, Lee Trundle and Matty Collins.

“I’m just really happy to have signed for Neath,” said Whatley.

“There’s a lot of exciting developments going on at the club and the training facilities and work ethos are excellent.”

“I can’t wait to get the season underway.”
