Liam Heads for Greener Pastures

Liam Green

Talented left full-back Liam Green has spent the last 12 months combining his studies at Loughborough University alongside part time football with Boston United in the Blue Square North.

The former Doncaster Rovers starlet was allowed to leave the Keepmoat Stadium by Manager Sean O’Driscoll, despite having made two Football League appearances during the 2006 -2007 season.

Following his release, Green attended LFE’s Assessment Trial at Rushden and Diamonds. His performance at the trial attracted the interest of Conference Club York City and caught the attention of ex-Chesterfield defender, now turned Loughborough University Coach, Tom Curtis.

Curtis offered Green the opportunity to attend the University to undertake a Foundation Degree in Exercise and Fitness Management. Green saw this as an opportunity that was too good to turn down and decided to combine his studies alongside playing for Boston United in the Blue Square North.

While a fixture in the Pilgrims line up last season, Green was selected to represent the English Universities against Wales and Scotland at the British University Games in April and believes that the path he has followed since leaving Doncaster Rovers will provide him with a number of career options in the future:

“After the Assessment Trials at Rushden I spoke to Tom Curtis at Loughborough and decided that I would be best served by undertaking a degree course that also allowed me to continue my football at a good level.”

“I have the best of both worlds now, I am studying for a qualification that enhances secondary career prospects while also representing the University and Boston Utd which keeps me in the shop window as far as my football is concerned.”
