LFE Provides Pre-Season SPARQ

LFE has teamed up with SPARQ training to offer all Football League clubs the chance to benchmark the fitness levels of their Apprentices three times a season.

The initiative which is completely free of charge to clubs will see SPARQ representatives visit clubs to conduct four tests aimed at providing clubs with details around the effectiveness of training programmes as well as the individual capacities of their players.

The football specific tests of speed, power, agility and endurance capacity will first be conducted during pre-season and then replicated later in the season during January and April/May.

The four tests, The Vertical Jump, 20-Metre Sprint, Arrowhead Agility and Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test will also provide players with valuable evidence towards their educational programme and while at the same time proving a useful motivational tool for encouraging players towards improving their physical abilities.

“I think most clubs are amazed that this service is actually free,”

said Ralph Newbrook, Manager of SPARQ.

“We’re offering all clubs the opportunity to benchmark their players fitness levels, through standard tests. The data can then be passed on to inform training programmes and motivate individuals. It works by scoring each individual element and giving a combined score to really focus in on the physical capabilities of your players.”

While one season might be just ending, Newbrook is conscious that pre-season training is little over six weeks away for some clubs;

“We’ve had a positive response so far from clubs who came along to LFE’s regional meeting’s. All in all we’ve probably got 15 clubs so far who would like us to go in to their clubs in pre-season,” added Newbrook.

“They range from the top of the Championship down to League Two so I’d advise any clubs thinking about using us to get in touch as soon as they can so we can plan accordingly.”
