Eight Apprentices from Football League Clubs helped England Under-17s win the Algarve Tournament earlier this week.
The troop of youngsters hailing from League clubs was headed by Southampton’s Calum Chambers. The Saint’s youngster playing in all three games of the competition which took place either side of the weekend against the hosts, France, and Holland.
Chambers who recently turned 17, scored in a 2-2 draw with Holland on Saturday and added to his tally against by scoring against the French on Monday in a 2-1 win. That victory clinched the tournament but he was not the only player from a Championship club to make a goal scoring contribution over the weekend with West Ham’s, Leo Chambers and Derby County’s Will Hughes also on the score-sheet over the three games.
Luke Coddington (Middlesbrough), George Willis (Sheffield Utd), Ryan Inniss (Crystal Palace), Kieran Wallace (Nottingham Forest) and Diego Poyet (Charlton Athletic) were the other youngsters involved in the Three Lions success which bodes well for England and once again highlights the depth of talent that exists within The Football League.
