Carlisle United and Oldham Athletic shared five goals in Saturdays entertaining Youth Alliance fixture but it was the Cumbrians who came out on top with an emphatic 4- 1 win which gets them up and running in the North West Conference.
Goals from Ryan Bowman (2) Mark Sloan and Matt Osmond took the game away from an Oldham side whose display was characterised by some inept defending both before and after Tom Eaves had cancelled out an early opener for the home side.
Eric Kinder will now be hoping that Carlisle can reproduce this result when they face league leaders Preston on Saturday while Tony Philliskirk will expect better when the Latics tackle Wrexham at the weekend.
