Burnley youngster Shay McCartan has been rewarded for his impressive start to the season with a first call-up to the Northern Ireland under-19 squad.
The striker, who has scored four times in Burnley’s opening two youth-team games, has been included in the Irish squads to play two challenge matches against Switzerland next month.
Defender Luke Conlon, who joined Burnley’s youth set-up in the summer, has been placed on stand-by for the fixtures in Ballymoney on 3 & 5 September.
“He has started the season really well,” said Clarets’ Director of Youth Martin Dobson.
“He is fit, he has got good ability and we want to push on with him. We are delighted for him and he fully deserves this recognition from his national team.”
McCartan has previously represented Northern Ireland at U-17 level.
