Match: Hull City U18 v Preston North End U18
Saturday and a long trip to Hull for a place in the semi final was at stake. We set off to Deepdale at about 7.30 and arrived just after 10am. The coach driver had stopped at the KC Stadium thinking we were playing there! I started my first competitive match in just over four months. We didn’t get off to the best of starts, conceding after 3 minutes when a Hull player hit a shot which was coming straight to me. Unfortunately it hit Phil Appiah’s arm and deflected to my right as I dived to the left. Neither side really created much in the first half, Hull’s only other meaningful effort on target was just before the break. The striker turned it, smashed it on the volley and I had to beat the shot away to safety.
We fancied our chances at half time after only conceding one with the wind against us. However we didn’t really create enough and Hull sealed the game in the 80th minute when two Hull players peeled off at the back and one of them had the easy task of a free header from 8 yards. Poor defending. Although, I was pleased with my own performance as I did well, but I was gutted that we were out of the Cup and it was a long journey home.
