Highs & Lows In Sweden

It was a mixed bag for our Clubs out in Sweden as they all played their first friendly of the tour on Wednesday evening.

Rotherham United emerged as 2-1 winners vs GIF Sundvall thanks to goals from Conor Hiley (aka Foxy) after the Swedes had taken an early lead.

Yorkshire neighbours Barnsley can be satisfied with their efforts in their opening game as they drew 1-1 at Ange IF.

After an even first half the hosts opened the scoring shortly after half time but Barnsley immediately responded and a well worked move saw Jordan Clarke hit an equaliser.

In the final twenty minutes the Tykes pressed valiantly for a winner but the Ange back line stood firm to ensure a share of the spoils.

Meanwhile Hartlepool United’s youngsters faced Ytterhogdals IK and despite creating a host of chances against the Swedish outfit the visitors were beaten 2-1.

Daniel Johnson got the goal for Pools and even though they were defeated Youth coach Micky Barron was pleased with their performance.

“It was a good workout for us and it will have helped with our match fitness. It was disappointing that we conceded two goals from set pieces but we created a lot of chances at the other end and really could have at least drawn the game.”

“Overall I’m quite pleased with the work we put in to it and now we can build towards the tournament at the weekend.”
