Grimsby Town Sack Manager Neil Woods

Grimsby Town have sacked Manager Neil Woods after 15 months in charge.

Woods leaves Blundell Park with the Club sitting ninth in the Blue Square Premier, nine points outside the play-off places following Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Forest Green.

The 44 year old took charge at Blundell Park in November 2009 but was unable to prevent the Club being relegated from the Football League.

Woods’ assistant Dave Moore will take temporary charge of the team.

A statement on the Club website read: “Neil has been a terrific servant to the Club and the decision has not been an easy one.”

“The Club will not be promoting from within and will consider all applications along with a number of targets. It is important the Club makes a timely appointment to keep alive their play-off aspirations.”

Woods took over as Manager from Mike Newell after previously being the Club’s Head of Youth, a role he had occupied since 2003.

He also made more than 200 appearances for the Mariners during his playing career.
