A goal from an Exeter City youngster helped Dorchester Town produce one of the shocks of the FA Cup first round as they beat ten-man Plymouth Argyle yesterday.
Grecians winger Jake Gosling, who is on loan at the Blue Square South club scored the only goal of the game as Argyle struggled after the dismissal of Conor Hourihane in the ninth minute.
19-year-old Gosling is in his first year as a professional at St James’ Park after completing his Apprenticeship in the summer. He was sent to Dorchester to gain valuable experience of men’s football and showed yesterday that he is coming of age.
Gosling’s strike means that Phil Simkin’s team will travel to either Luton Town or Nuneaton in the second round.
For Argyle it is the second season running that they have been knocked out of the FA Cup by non-league opposition.
Stourbridge upset them last year at the same stage with another former Apprentice Paul McCone (Wolverhampton Wanderers) scoring in that game.
