Goal Of The Month Winner – March 2012

Sheffield Wednesday’s Tom Rowbotham is LFE’s March 2012 Goal of the Month winner.

In a closely run competition the 18-year-old defender picked up just over 2000 votes to pip his nearest challenger, Portsmouth’s Ashley Harris, by less than 100 votes.

Rowbotham’s left-footed finish came in Wednesday’s 5-2 win over Middlesbrough at Middlewood Road last month.

“I am really pleased to win especially as the voting was so close,” Rowbotham told LFE.

“It really was neck and neck for most of the week and I’m just pleased to come out on top as there were some great goals in there.”

“I’ll always remember the goal but more importantly it came in a really good team performance.”

Academy Manager Sean McAuley added: “You can probably here me on the clip shout, ‘finish it’ because I encourage players to get shots off on goal when they can.”

“Tom strike was a really good finish but he’s capable of that when he’s playing well.”

“He hit it with real power giving the keeper no chance and I think it’s a deserved winner of this month’s competition.”

Rowbotham now automatically qualifies for the goal of the season competition in May.
