Nottingham Forest’s Under 18s have been confirmed as Champions of their section of the Academy League.
The Reds saw off nearest challengers Sunderland on Wednesday without even kicking a ball as the Black Cats failed to win at Huddersfield Town.
Sunderland went into their game in West Yorkshire knowing anything less than a victory would end their challenge for a fourth successive title.
They were, however, frustrated by Huddersfield who held them to a goalless draw, sparking celebrations at the City Ground.
Academy Director Nick Marshall said:
“To win the title with games remaining is a fabulous achievement.”
“It’s a tribute to the players, their coaches Eoin Jess and Steve Sutton and all the backroom staff at the Academy who have worked with the lads over the years.”
“They can be proud of their efforts and the manner in which they went about playing their football.”
Forest will now look forward to the end of the season play-offs involving the winners of the three other Academy League sections – those sections are currently topped by Arsenal, Leicester City and Manchester United.
