Fleetwood Teenager Matete Turns Pro

Second-year apprentice Jay Matete has committed his future to Fleetwood Town by signing his first professional contract, agreeing a one-and-a-half-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.

The 18-year-old midfielder has featured in three Leasing.com Trophy matches this season, including his first start against Accrington Stanley earlier this month.

Head coach Joey Barton told the club website: “We’re really pleased to see Jay sign with us at Fleetwood Town.

“He is a player with a bright future ahead of him, and we look forward to watching him develop in the future with our other talented group of young players.”
