The heroics of two former Apprentices in the FA Cup 1st Round have put them in the frame to be voted ‘E.ON Player of the Round’ to enable them take their place at The FA Cup Final on 30th May.
Former Blackpool Apprentice Kyle Clancy and ex-Darlington man Shaun Reay stole the headlines after impressive displays.
Now at Droylsden FC, 19 year-old Clancy came on in the 20th minute and ran away with the man-of-the-match award after a string of fine saves earned the Bloods a home replay against Darlington, who are currently riding high at the top of League Two.
Clancy’s saves included a point-blank header from Richie Foran that seemed destined for the back of the net.
Not to be outdone, Shaun Reay notched a double to inspire a famous win for his current club as Blyth Spartans produced a giant-killing 3-1 win over Shrewsbury Town. Reay’s first goal was also the fastest goal of the round in 26 seconds.
