Dragons Cap Matthews

Adam Matthews

LFE would like to congratulate Cardiff City full-back Adam Matthews who has been added to the Wales Under-21 squad for their qualifying match against Italy at the Liberty Stadium, Swansea on Friday 4th September.

Adam, 17, is a 2nd year Apprentice at the Club who made an impressive senior debut for City in last week’s 3-1 victory at Plymouth, and shone again on Sunday in the 3-0 victory over Bristol City, earning glowing praise from Bluebirds boss Dave Jones.

Speaking to the Club’s official website Matthews has thanked Skipper Joe Ledley for helping him settle into The Bluebirds first team. He said:

“Joe has helped me a lot, talking to me on and off the pitch. But all the boys in the dressing room have been great. I was nervous to start with, but they’ve all been great with me if I’ve made a mistake.”

Matthews will now look forward to the international break with Wales who currently top Group Three with seven points from three games, a point ahead of Hungary and six ahead of Luxembourg, though Italy and Bosnia-Herzogovina have yet to play a game.
