Match day came and everybody was raring to go. Once again I was to be disappointed as Jamie opted to go without a keeper on the bench so I wasn’t in the squad along with Tom Smythe. The game was a feisty affair, which was to be expected with it being a local derby, and in the 26th minute things went over the top. After being fouled, Phil Appiah went looking for revenge and went in with a rash tackle. It was a yellow card offence at the most. However, much to the disbelief of everyone, including the Blackpool bench, the referee pulled out a red card. This left us with ten men for the remainder of the game. But the dismissal only seemed to inspire us and in the 82nd minute, after tireless work upfront, Aaron McCarthy got his reward and put us one nil up with a fantastically taken goal, rounding the keeper before slotting the ball into the empty net.
They say your most vulnerable when you’ve just scored, the old saying was right on this occasion as slack marking from a set piece gave Blackpool an equaliser almost instantly. But more drama was to follow in the last minute. Tommo couldn’t hold onto a cross and the Blackpool striker knocked the ball home to complete their comeback and give them the three points. We were all gutted after the match especially after working so hard, but we had to put it behind us and look to the Carlisle match next week.
