Saturday, what a day! What a match! Everyone was in a confident mood and raring to get the season off to a flyer, but I don’t think anybody expected the game that was about to take place when we arrived at the training ground at 9.30am. Unfortunately as I had only just come back from injury I didn’t make the squad of 16 for the match. It was disappointing as you always want to be involved but it was expected as I’m only just back from injury.
At 11am the match got underway. In an amazing start we were 2-0 up within ten minutes with goals from Ash Higgins and Nathan Fairhurst. But within the blink of an eye Rochdale scored 3 goals in a crazy 4 minutes to make it 3-2. As half time approached Ash got his second to make it 3-3 at the break.
An equally thrilling second half was to follow! Rochdale took the lead from a corner to make it 4-3, but Mike Aspin scored an absolute screamer to make it 4-4. Aaron McCarthy and Dom Collins then got on the score sheet to make the final score 6-4, a ten goal thriller to start the season.
