Day 3: Holland Pre-Season Tour 2012

LFE’s Pre-Season Tour got into full swing last night as all three Football League Clubs took on Dutch opposition.

And it was three wins from three games. Oldham Athletic started the winning sequence with a comfortable win over Fortuna Sittard.

In a match played in searing heat The Latics fell behind to an early goal but recovered well to run out comfortable 4-1 winners, with goals from Luke Wandless (15), Carlton McIntosh (42), Tomos Clarke (57) and Jordan Bove (63).

Cheltenham Town were up next against NAC Breda. After an evenly contested opening 20 minutes the Robins started to take control of the game.

And with Adam Powell dominating midfield and Ed Williams asking questions of the Breda back four it was no surprise when Cheltenham’s pressure told after 30 minutes.

A lapse in the Breda defence allowed James Bowen in and he skipped around the goalkeeper before smashing the ball into the back of the net from close range.

If Cheltenham bossed the end of the first half, the second period was a different story, with Breda tweaking their midfield to exert pressure of their own. While the home-side enjoyed the lion’s share of possession, the Robins youngster produced a resolute rear-guard action to deny Breda an equaliser and come away with a 1-0 win.

In the evening’s final fixture Darren Wassall’s Derby side took on their hosts ADO Den Haag.

In a fiercely competitive fixture the Ram’s went two goals up thanks to Kayode Bola (5) and Kwame Tomas (50) before their hosts pulled a goal back.

Despite this setback Wassall’s men were able to hold on to their advantage until the final whistle.
