Dario Gradi insists that he would prefer to continue with his own players for the time being instead of looking to exploit the loan market.
The Crewe Alexandra boss who has already re-called the likes of
Danny Shelley (pictured left) Shaun Miller,
Ashley Westwood (pictured below) and Luke Murphy to the first team squad is a firm believer in bringing on talent in his own camp instead of looking elsewhere.
The Alex Manager did sign goalkeeper Steve Phillips in on a two-month loan deal from Bristol Rovers on Monday, but isn’t actively seeking any more reinforcements as he wishes to give members of his own squad an opportunity to stake a claim for a place in his first team.
Speaking to the Club’s official website, Dario said:
“Like all Managers, I am always looking to improve my team. You never stop doing that but it would take something a bit special for me to do something else at the moment.”
“I want to give the players here an opportunity to show what they can do. I thought the bench was strong at Cheltenham. We have Clayton back with us now, Billy Jones at full-back, Simon Walton and Danny O’Donnell. We also have Harry (Worley) to call upon once he is fit. He is progressing well but is still three weeks away.”
“I took a phone call the other day from a father I know well and he is desperate for his son to come here on loan. I just told him that I want to give my own players a chance.”
“I went to watch Chelsea Reserves play Stoke City the other night and there was a forward from Chelsea we liked the look of but I want to give Shaun and Byron a chance because they are our own kids.”
“What I do know is that if they don’t perform and score goals then I know where to go. I’ll give Steve (Holland) a ring at Chelsea!”
