Countdown to Competitive Edge for Burnley Skipper Clarke

Burnley Captain Clarke Carlisle is set to visit Competitive Edge Live at the Bolton Arena this week to after describing the events as ‘vitally important’.

Competitive Edge Live, a unique careers and recruitment fair aims to unite elite athletes and students of all ages looking to progress their sport, leisure or tourism career will run at the Bolton Arena on 10th and 11th March.

And the Clarets defender, fresh from his exploits on Channel 4’s, ‘Countdown’ will be at the Arena this week for the event organised by League Football Education and Jobserve Events.

This role stemming from his current engagement as a member of The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Management Committee, a ten strong group headed by Chairman Chris Powell which also includes other North West stars, Gary Neville (Manchester Utd), Jason Roberts (Blackburn Rovers) and Phil Neville (Everton).

A prominent member of this group, Carlisle has been quick to identify the significance of Competitive Edge Live for those planning their future career moves;

“An event like this is perfectly tailored to the needs of any individual looking to enhance their career options. It offers students of all ages, good opportunities to progress their careers in sport, leisure or tourism career by the very fact that you’re given an audience with some of the country’s leading employers and education and training institutions.”

“Speaking with my PFA hat on, I hope that the hundreds of young footballers attending can take maximum benefit from the day. As well as meeting with exhibitors, there’ll have the opportunity to mix with the mainstream students and take in some of the free, professional advice clinics and careers seminars that will be available over the two days.”

“This is vitally important as statistics show that only a small fraction of players that come in to the game at sixteen, actually make a long term career out of it.”
