Contracts Handed to Four Colchester Youngsters

Four Colchester United youth players have been offered professional development contracts as the U’s continue to look to the future.

Frankie Kent, Sammy Szmodics, Macauley Bonne and Jack Curtis have all been given the chance to extend their stay at the U’s.

Their original apprentice deals were due to end next summer but the new contracts give them an extra year at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Head of Youth Tony Humes praised the quartet, saying: “They have all deserved this recognition.”

“The manager said that contracts would only ever be offered on merit here and these four lads have earned them.”

“Their attitude and application, along with their football talent, has given them the chance to progress and their development should continue now with the U21s group.”

“Well done to the four of them but I have warned them that this is only the next step for them, there is plenty of hard work still to be done.”
