Crewe Alexandra youngster Max Clayton is being lined up to make his first senior start for the club in tomorrow night’s 2nd Round Johnstone’s Paint trophy clash with local rivals Macclesfield Town.
Clayton, who is an England Youth International, is in the second year of his Apprenticeship. Just 17 years-old he has already made nine substitute appearances for the club – seven of which have come this term.
With Manager Dario Gradi set to use tomorrow night’s cup-tie to give some of his squad’s fringe players a chance forward Clayton will be aiming to leave a lasting impression, as will fellow Academy youngster Michael Koral, who is also hoping to make his debut against Macc.
Koral, who is also forward, is yet to start a competitive game for Alex but did feature during their pre-season programme.
Full-back Ollie Turton who made his debut against Stockport County at the end of last season is also expected to start his first game of the season.
