Match: Stoke City Reserves vs Port Vale Reserves
We were in on Wednesday for a short session because on Thursday we had a Reserve game against Port Vale and a lot of the Youth team would be involved in the match either in starting or on the bench. I was on the bench but eager to get on to the pitch having never actually played against Port Vale.
The game got underway with us having the best of the chances but their ‘keeper was having a worldie of a game. It remained deadlocked at half time and into the second half with us looking the more likely of the two teams to score. But when Jimmy went up for a header against their left back there was a clash of heads and the Vale left back came out worse. He continued to keep falling in and out of consciousness and after 15 minutes and a call for the ambulance, the referee decided to call the game off at around 65 minutes and it was called a draw. (The player involved was let out of hospital that night and made a full recovery with no lasting injuries.)
