City’s Youngsters Feel The Blues

Birmingham City Liverpool

Birmingham City’s youngsters face an uphill task if they are to reach the FA Youth Cup final after a disappointing 3 – 0 reverse in the home leg of their semi final tie against Liverpool.

The Blues young guns appearing against Premiership opposition for the first time in this season’s competition were three down before the half mark and despite steadying the ship after the break the boys from St Andrews will have it all to do in this weeks second leg at Anfield.

A combination of good Liverpool play and sloppy defending led to a brace from Finnish striker Lauri Dalla Valle and David Amoo as the Anfield side raced into a three goal advantage.

However with a second leg still to come the tie is far from over, a point which is not lost on Red’s Youth team coach Hugh McAuley;

“We’re pleased with the result but it’s only half-time in the tie. There is another game at Anfield next week and we’ve got to play for 90 minutes, not 45.”
