Championship Player of the Month Wickham Lets Feet Do His Talking

Ipswich Town youngster Connor Wickham has been named npower Championship Player of the Month for February.

Wickham scored four times during the month – including a first senior hat-trick at Doncaster Rovers.

Speaking to the Club’s website, Ipswich Manager Paul Jewell was full of praise for the teenage forward, both as a player and a character.

“We’re obviously delighted for Connor. It’s been a good month for him, with the hat-trick at Doncaster and some very good performances around that.”

“A lot has obviously been spoken about Connor and he’s got loads of potential.”

“He is making good progress and we don’t have to try and keep his feet on the ground either because he’s a very level-headed lad,” added Jewell.

Wickham himself is keen to continue his career on an upward trend and said that he pays no attention to any of the media hype that has followed him since making his Town debut almost two years ago.

“I don’t really read the papers, I just see it if it comes on the news or TV or if my mates from school tell me,” the striker told BBC Radio Suffolk.

“I know what’s going on and it doesn’t really affect me or faze me, all I’m doing is playing my football. I’m just letting my football do the talking. I just want to play as much football and score as many goals as I can, off the pitch isn’t anything to do with me,” he added.

“I’m happy here, I’m playing week-in week-out and scoring goals. I signed a contract just a couple of weeks ago for another few years and that’s the way it is at the moment, I want to keep playing football at Ipswich Town.”
