League Football Education is celebrating the best goals scored across the Academy Leagues during the 2018-19 campaign, with the winners of each Goal of the Month competition vying for the Goal of the Season prize.
Bolton Wanderers and Republic of Ireland youth starlet Luca Connell kicked the season off with the triumphant strike in August having scored with a composed effort following a jinking run past several defenders, while his team-mate Callum King-Harmes claimed the October award with a precise left-footed shot into the top corner.
Bristol City full-back Bradley Webb fought off stiff competition in September after lobbing the keeper with a tremendous free-kick from distance, with Oxford United’s Owen James taking a very different approach to winning the November prize, carrying the ball into the area from wide on the left flank before applying a calm finish past the keeper.
Lewis Farmer was the final winner of 2018 as the first-year Sheffield Wednesday apprentice showcased terrific footwork and then smashed the ball into the back of the net.
Promising Preston North End youngster Adam O’Reilly was victorious twice in 2019, sealing top spot in January with a curler from outside the area after some slick build-up play, while he then won the April competition with a thunderous drive during the Lancashire FA Youth Cup final.
Elsewhere, February saw Jenson Wright (Milton Keynes Dons) come out on top by netting an impressive strike from range, with Forest Green Rovers’ Dan Bradshaw taking the crown in March through a sublime free-kick.
Another Preston teenager completes the shortlist as Jack Baxter secured LFE’s pick of ‘best loser’, with his audacious hit from inside his own half seeing off three other candidates in a post-season Twitter poll.
