LFE’s Goal of the Month competition returns for its second instalment of the 2018-19 season, with 10 of the best strikes from across the Academy leagues in September in the running to follow Bolton Wanderers midfielder Luca Connell, who claimed the prize for August.
Sheffield Wednesday first-year apprentice Charles Hagan kicks things off with a pinpoint finish following a tricky individual run, while Cambridge United’s Joe Neal features in his third Goal of the Month after finding the top corner from a free-kick. Rieves Boocock is also no stranger to GOTM, with the prolific Doncaster Rovers striker earning his second nomination having fired a shot from distance beyond the reach of the keeper.
Rochdale apprentice Musambya Kisimba took a similarly direct route to goal as he unleashed a powerful drive from range, while Forest Green Rovers’ Lewis Spurrier took a more patient approach, carrying the ball towards goal from the halfway line before beating a few defenders and emphatically hitting the back of the net.
Bristol City defender Bradley Webb showed his attacking capabilities by lobbing the keeper with a spectacular free-kick from all of 40 yards out, in contrast to Kyle Joseph’s calm finish from inside the area which capped off a crisp team move from Wigan Athletic.
Elsewhere, Leon Maloney’s (Portsmouth) precise hit from outside the area and Owen Watkinson’s (Blackpool) sweetly-struck first-time volley also make the cut, as does a terrific solo effort from Lincoln City’s Elliott Sartorius.
