Young Lions Secure Top Spot

England

England’s U19 team finished their UEFA European U19 Championship First Qualifying Round with a perfect record with a 2-0 win over Slovakia on Wednesday afternoon.

Noel Blake’s side had already qualified for the next stage of the competition with a game in hand after winning their first two games (both 3-1) against Finland and Slovenia, but this victory which secured top spot in the group means that England will be seeded for the draw of the elite qualifying round.

That will take place next year, and the team who finish top of their elite round group will progress to the European Championship Finals in France during the summer.

The squad featured current or former Apprentices from the ASE programme;

Jordan Clarke (Coventry City),
Nathaniel Clyne (Crystal Palace),
Oscar Gobern (Southampton),
Scott Malone (Wolverhampton Wanderers)
Aidan White (Leeds United).
