Swindon Town Kick-Off Cup Campaign

Swindon Town’s Youth team kick off their FA Youth Cup campaign tonight when they host Newport County in the 1st Round at the County Ground.

The Robins will go into tonight’s fixtures confidence after thrashing Hereford Utd 7-0 at the weekend.

Goalkeeper Leigh Bedwell and striker Miles Storey, who have both been involved in the first team this season, were rested for that game but are likely to play a more prominent role tonight.

Town reached the 3rd Round last year but were knocked out of the competition following a 2-0 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road. They have reached the FA Youth Cup final only once before – losing to a Manchester United side that contained George Best back in 1964.

Their best run since was to reach the quarter-finals in 2004.

Should Town beat Newport County the winner of the match between AFC Bournemouth and Plymouth Argyle awaits.

Tonight’s will also see a number of other Football League Clubs start their FA Youth Cup campaigns.

Northampton Town, Leyton Orient, Crewe Alexandra, Bradford City, Gillingham and Southend United all face non-league opposition while the draw has also pitted a number of Football League clubs together. Hartlepool Utd will play Bury, Rochdale host neighbours Oldham Athletic, Sheffield Wednesday travel to face Carlisle Utd and Shrewsbury Town will take on Notts County.
