Smith Leaves Cambridge For Chertsey

Former Wycombe Wanderers defender Miles Smith has left Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division club Cambridge City to join Division One outfit Chertsey Town.

The defender has not appeared in a competitive match for the Lilywhites this season. And with former Coventry City Apprentice Liam Nicell ahead of him in the pecking order boss Gary Roberts felt it was the right decision to release him.

“He’s had Nicell in front of him, so it hasn’t been easy for him,” said Roberts.

“Chertsey came in for him and we agreed to let him go.”

Nicell was one of City’s best players last season and has been an ever-present in the side so far during this campaign.

“Even though Liam has not yet hit the heights of last year, he’s still got the experience, so I’ve decided to stick with him,” said Roberts.

“Rather than hold on to Miles and tie him up, it made sense to let him go and get on with his career. He needs to play some games.”
