After an enthralling campaign at Academy level nine superb strikes make up the final shortlist for League Football Education’s 2012-13 Goal of the Season competition. This year’s nine man shortlist which consists of all this term’s individual goal of the month winners has a distinctly southern feel to it with six hailing from clubs based in the South of England.

Sheffield Wednesday’s Jarrod Kyle took the prize last year – collecting a record 25,325 votes for his stunning strike against Sheffield Utd in the Academy version of the Steel City derby. That was just enough to pip Southend’s Jack Payne who had also amassed over twenty-thousand votes and the competition promises to be just as fierce between this year’s contenders:

AUGUST: Sulley KaiKai, Liverpool v CRYSTAL PALACE
SEPTEMBER: Alex Laing, Portsmouth v CRAWLEY TOWN
OCTOBER: Levander Pyke, Brighton & Hove Albion v CHARLTON ATHLETIC
NOVEMBER: Josh Thomas, Huddersfield Town v NOTTINGHAM FOREST
DECEMBER: Dylan McGlade, MIDDLESBROUGH v Liverpool
JANUARY: Alex Jakubiak, WATFORD v Peterborough Utd
FEBRUARY: Tanasheh Abrahams, BARNET v Brighton & Hove Albion
MARCH: Bradley Tarbuck, PORTSMOUTH v Southend United
APRIL: Jamie Hanson, Coventry City v DERBY COUNTY

LFE Chief Executive, Alan Sykes said: “This competition is a great platform to showcase the talented young players that are currently being produced by Football League clubs across the land. It is hugely competitive and extremely popular with the players, clubs and general public.”

Voting will remain open until 2pm on Wednesday 29 May.
