Child Benefit is a tax-free monthly payment to anyone bringing up a child or young person. It is not affected by income or savings so most people bringing up a child or young person qualify for it.
The Child Benefit Office has confirmed that “the Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (ASE) programme currently falls under ‘Programme Led Apprenticeships’ and as such the young person will meet the qualifying young person conditions.”
Any Child Benefit payments stopped in recent months (in respect of 1st year Apprentices due to start their 2nd year shortly) should be reimbursed, but parents should request/claim this as it may not happen automatically.
